VIEWING RECORDS

Choose the record sort that will be easiest to help you find your information.  For example you might be looking for the name of a person’s father.  You could first find the records of the child using the “ First Name” sort.  After determining the dates and counties for this child’s records, you could look up the records of other persons that lived in the same counties during the same time period using the “County ” sort.  This could give you information that could help you determine the person’s father name.

EXITING ANY SCREEN

To exit any screen press the ESCAPE key.  You will return to the previous screen.  You can then select and press ENTER to view another record or again press the ESCAPE key and move back until you reach the main menu.

SINGLE LINE RECORD SCREEN

When you press the ENTER key on a highlighted menu such as “First Name / Sort” a single line listing each record will appear on the screen.  You can move the highlighted record one line at a time using the UP and DOWN ARROW keys.  Press the PAGE UP or DOWN key to move a page of records at a time.

For faster lookup operation type the name you are looking for and the screen will move to the first record of the name typed.  If no record matches the name typed the first record following the name typed will appear on the screen.  For example when viewing records sorted in “First Name” order, if you type the name LEVI the records will move to the first record with the first name of LEVI.  Note that the name you type will appear within the heading line.  You can than PAGE DOWN or UP or use ARROW keys to find the LEVI record you are looking for.  The LEVI names will be listed in date order.  To erase an incorrectly typed name or to view a new name press the BACKSPACE key or the LEFT ARROW key.  This will erase all letters typed and a new name can then be entered.
